Steve Kovach has been off road racing since the early ADRA days. He and team member Jeff Koenig used to team up on quads years ago. After taking a Wide Open Baja trip down the Sea of Cortez side he was hooked. In the 2004 Baja 1000 he and son Kyle were pitting for the trophy truck team of Jesse Jones and after changing a drive line at 3 in the morning and Jessey roaring out of the pits he said to Kyle “Okay, we got to get us one of these.” Steve first raced San Felipe in the Stock Mini Class. For the next four years he gave Rod Hall (General Motors H3) and Galvin Skilta (Honda Ridgeline) a run for their money, finishing third in the class three years in a row.

Steve drove a couple of races for the Horsley Team with a protruck and once having driven faster he moved to the Unlimited Mini Truck Class 6 in SCORE and 7600 in Best In The Desert.

Steve is a competitor, loves the desert, and is looking to great things with this new truck.

Chip’s first race was the Mint 400 in 1980 back when it was sanctioned by SCORE, and has been hooked ever since. Since then he has helped out in stock car and dragster teams but mainly has focused on off-road racing.

“I believe the opportunities we have at Kovach are tremendous, and I’m excited about the future”.

Preston Schmid has been around racing almost his whole life. Shortly after graduating from Arizona Automotive Institute, Preston found a job as a full prep mechanic, and chief navigator with Iron Horse Racing. During the time Preston worked for Iron Horse Racing he gained valuable knowledge about racing as well as pit strategy and plans on bringing his new expertise to the Kovach Racing.

Kyle started riding motorcycles when he was 10. His passion for offroad racing lead him to Baja racing in 2004, where he has been competing ever since.

Scott has been racing since he was 10 years old. He has raced many amateur races across the United States including; AMA Loretta Lynn TN, Ponka City OK, and many more national races before going professional.

Colt has been with the Kovach Racing team since its inseption in early 2004. He and Kyle have been good friends since high school and love anything that involves dirt and speed. That mixed with the fact that they have been riding motorcycles together for over 8 years and are very competitive in everything they do, leads to a great addition to the team spirit. Colt started his “team duties” after working as a assistant manager at Discount Tire for over 5 years. Bringing this advanced knowledge of tire, wheel and suspension systems over to the Kovach Racing team made things a little easier on the chase crew in tight situations. Colt really looks forward to this season and working with the new class 6 truck!!!
